1. OpenAI cut its funding target by $10B

OpenAI lowered its latest round from about $30B to about $20B, at a $1.25 trillion valuation instead of the $1.4 trillion pitched, as an AI stock selloff and Anthropic's impending IPO complicated commitments.

Why it matters: Even the company that defines the AI boom is now negotiating with a cooler market.

2. Anthropic's IPO filing puts AI risk in the prospectus

Anthropic filed Oct 26 for what could be the biggest IPO ever, with a possible raise up to $100B. Its filing shows first-half 2026 revenue above $16B alongside an $80.7B net loss, and devotes roughly 94 pages to risks, including warnings that advanced AI could pose catastrophic or existential risks.

Why it matters: The same document asking for record money also warns, in regulatory language, that the technology could escape human control.

3. Nvidia wants to ship data centers like products, not projects

At GTC Berlin, Nvidia unveiled the "DSX POD," a modular data-center design based on its Vera Rubin architecture, pre-validated at the factory so on-site installation could fall from six months to as little as 14 days, assuming power, cooling, and networking are ready.

Why it matters: The bottleneck in AI is no longer just chips — it's how fast you can build the building around them.

4. Intel is shifting factory capacity from PCs to servers

Intel is reallocating wafer capacity from client PC processors toward data-center Xeon server chips, converting Oregon 18A lines and expanding fabs in Ireland and Arizona. Global Q3 PC shipments were down 21% year over year, while Intel's Data Center and AI revenue rose nearly 80% to $7.3B.

Why it matters: A factory line is a bet on the future, and Intel is betting the PC era's factory floor now belongs to AI servers.

5. Reddit is closing its open front door

Reddit announced Oct 29 it is moving to a primarily logged-in experience, starting with tests outside the US in Q4. Search referrals fell by more than 1 million per week on average in October, which Reddit links to Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode answering questions without a click-through.

Why it matters: For two decades, "add Reddit to your search" was how people found real human answers. AI search is breaking that loop.

6. Breakthrough: a protein that may explain why egg quality declines with age

Researchers from Chiba University, Kumamoto University, and Riken identified a protein they named OMC1 that helps preserve the bonds between chromosomes in egg cells. Published Oct 30 in Nature Aging, the work — so far mainly in mice — showed reintroducing OMC1 suppressed premature chromosome separation.

Why it matters: It's a small, precise finding about a question many people live with quietly — whether that change is inevitable or, one day, adjustable.
